This place was decent with the subs. I think the only cool thing is they slice the meats and cheese in front of you with the deli cut machine. It's a good way of showing its fresh. Lots of choices of meats. Customer service could use a little more work with friendly attitude.

Stopped in Hawthorne, NV a couple weeks ago around lunchtime, which meant it was time to try Port of Subs.
I ordered the #8 Turkey and Provolone. The meat and cheese are both freshly sliced to order right there in front of you. Veggies also are very fresh, pretty much the same selection you'd find at any Subway. The portions are really good... I only got the small 5-inch sandwich this first time. Options also include 8-inch, 12-inch, or 24-inches. She asked if I wanted my sandwiched grilled, I nodded yes. Mmmmm... very tasty!
When you're passing through town and are feeling hungry, I certainly recommend visiting the Port of Subs. -

Normally for chain restaurants I don't do much of a review, if I review them at all. Everyone has been to a McDonalds or a Taco Bell. But on this one, it's a little different. The locals definitely don't need the info about this place because they will eat here at least once or twice in a year because there are only about 10 restaurants in Hawthorne.
But instead, this review is for the guy about to pull into Tonopah and get a burger...or the gal about to leave Fallon and is feeling that hunger beginning to be a real possibility in the near future. Yeah, I'm talking to the traveler who has never been to Hawthorn Nevada.
Port of Subs is a Sandwich shop similar to Subway....but so, so much better. Well, except for the bread. Subway has a huge variety of breads. Oh and prices. Subway has basically garbage food, so they have insanely low prices. But yeah...Port of Subs is similar to Subway. What else is different? Well I am glad you asked.
They slice the meat right in front of you on a nice and fast Hobart and send it on its way. No sitting in a "cooler" for how many ever days...slowly drying out and losing it's flavor. Instead they slice it up fresh for you right there as you order it. Oh wait...you wanted some extra pastrami? No problem, slice slice slice slice. No blank stares...as they try to figure out to what to do with the extra portion of meat sitting between the wax paper.
A small will feed a child no problem. A medium will cram fill most older adults. And a large is perfect for the larger eater in your group. I personally love the #1, #18, #5. I've had every number combination they offer and probably 50 others. Not specifically at this location, that's where I had a really good breakfast sandwich. Medium size for that is basically two eggs and a meat of your choice with cheese. A perfect choice for when you may be passing through during breakfast hours.
The guy working the counter early in the morning on a Saturday was pretty cool and seemed genuinely interested in helping. There aren't a ton of spots to sit and eat here, it shares space with a convenience store...so if you want to get out of the car...be forewarned...you might not have a comfy place to sit! There are some great picnic tables all over Hawthorne though, so get some fresh air while you are getting some fresh sliced sandwich. They also have some other hot sandwiches that are microwaved up and some great pressed sandwiches like my breakfast griller was.
And if you are a dessert person. Get the brownie. It's not life changing...but it is darn darn good. -
